Having
taken over the Regatta Parking campaign (in cahoots with Charles Wilson) from
Harrison Freer, I am happy to report we completed another successful Fall
Regatta parking campaign. Together with Park Rangers James, Donna, & Andy,
Charles and I successfully received the baton from Harrison as he transitioned
jobs and began spending more time out of the area. The events were
characterized by gorgeous weather, good camaraderie, safe and effective parking
operations and excellent income. Thanks to all who participated! A special
thanks to Vance Stewart recruited his son, Charlie, into service without
complaint. I'd also like to thank fellow parishioner & AF Academy
classmate, Dan Birrenkott, who volunteered some time as a way of giving to the
church even though he is not a Knight ... yet! Even though we didn't botch the
handoff, Harrison did such an outstanding job, I know we'll really have to rely
on all of your experience to make sure we continue to excel and remain the
parking team of choice for NCASRA & GMU at Sandy Run.
We kick off the
Spring '08 campaign 29 & 30 March. In an attempt to spread the wealth, we have
set a goal to get every Knight to volunteer to fill ONE 4-hour slot (not
including travel time to Sandy Run). I look forward to working with and getting
to know 120 different Knights (available 4-hour slots) as we work toward that
goal. Don't forget, if you have a son or daughter who needs some community
service opportunities, we'll take them too! As you can see from the sign up
log, we're 5/120ths of the way there! The entire schedule is posted now, so
please let Charles or me know when you can help soonest!

In case of inclement weather, and if you are concerned if a regatta has been
cancelled, either you will be contacted, or for High School Regattas, you can go
to the NCSRA web site at
www.ncasra.org for the most up-to-date information.
For those of you who are new to the Council, or new to the
Regatta Parking business, the following pages are designed specifically to enable you, the council
member volunteer, to know how to get to Sandy Run, what your duties are, and
what your shift times will be.
Specifically, we have a page for Site Captains,
a page for Parking Volunteers, and a detailed
Watch Bill so you know what times and dates you
have volunteered for, or which volunteer slots are open, just waiting for you to
volunteer.
And here's something for you all -- a
Site Map of the Sandy Run area. Now you know
where everything is.
Please refer to these pages often -- we'll try to keep them as up to date as
possible.
