Volunteer Information

Directions to Sandy Run Regional Park:

From the Church:  Fairfax County Parkway North to Lee Chapel Road (1.04 Miles).

Turn left onto Lee Chapel Road.  Proceed to Left turn onto Ox Road/Rte 123 (1.89 Miles).

Turn right onto Hampton Road/VA 647 (.88 Miles).

Turn slight left on Van Thompson Road, continue to sharp left turn (road is still Van Thompson Road) – distance of 0.5 mile.  Continue on Van Thompson to park gates (0.3 mile)

Park inside the gates (in C or D lot).  Site Captain will be there to get you started.

General Information:

You will be out in the open air, and will also do a lot of walking.  Please dress accordingly.

We do not have single permanent stations; as parking lots are filled, starting with the close-in lots, we will move to the outer lots.

Parking passes will be available, to avoid necessity of paying the regular $10 charge.  As you park, bring your parking pass to Site Captain, who will be at the central control station (between C and D parking lots), so they will be available for use in following weeks.  (In the event that we do not get a pass to you, be prepared to pay the $10, and then report to the Site Captain.  He will give you a pass to take back to the collectors, and you will recover your $10.)

The National Capital Area Scholastic Rowing Association (NCASRA) will provide lunch to those who are on station during the lunch hour.  In addition, we will have sodas, bottled water, and  snacks in the duty station wagon, which will be on the road as necessary.  There is usually a porta-potty located at the central control station (between C and D parking lots).  For larger regattas there will be an additional one at Loisvale Lot and at the Van Thompson Lot.
