Brother Knights,

The 2006-2007 fraternal year has closed and 2007-2008 is upon us. Our council had another banner year that included a much anticipated, long awaited opening of our new home at St. Raymond of Penafort Parish. Many thanks are owed to our Worthy Past Grand Knight, John Knight, all of the officers and members of the council in making this another great year for the Knights of Columbus and the Parish. I look forward to serving as your Grand Knight this fraternal year and can only hope to achieve similarly as a council as we start our first full year in the new Church. There is still much work to be done and I know we are up to the task.

We also saw the State of Virginia have a wonderful year under the leadership of the Worthy Past State Deputy, Cy Alba, and member of the St. John Bosco Council #12846. Please take time and seek out Brother Alba, congratulate him on a job well done and welcome him back as another “member.” Here is a quick recap of selected achievements for the State Council of Virginia for the 2006-2007 Columbian Year.

47* Councils made their membership quota
33* Councils made their insurance quota
24* Star Councils
8 Double Star Councils
12 Councils achieved 200% of their membership quota
5* Councils achieved 300% of their membership quota
10* Councils achieved 200% of their insurance quota
12 Districts achieved their membership quota
6 Districts achieved their insurance quota
6 Star Districts
62 Supreme Family of the Month winners.

Our own Council contributed mightily to these numbers. Let’s all endeavor to make the 2007-2008 Columbian just as good or better.

Our next Blood Drive is 4 August, 7am to noon, at the Parish Hall. You should have seen many a note in your email box asking for both donors and volunteers to sign up donors. Please give generously, as always.

Don’t forget the upcoming Parish Picnic on 30 September at the Parish Hall. As always, the Knights will provide the cooks. Let’s all turn out and make this first picnic at our parish one to remember- and pray for good weather.

Our next major event is Oktoberfest, to be held on 27 October at the Parish Hall. Most of the pre-coordination has been done by Brother Vance Stewart but we are in need of a Chairman for this most important activity. Please contact Cabell Angle if you are interested in taking on the role of Oktoberfest Chairmen.

Again, I look forward to serving our Council and Parish in the coming year and ask that all members take an active part in Council and Parish activities. Our success comes from your efforts.

Pray the Rosary
Vivat Jesus,

Bob Billeaud
Grand Knight
