District Deputy Restivo's Report

KNIGHTS SEND RELIEF TO HAITI

Knights of Columbus donations from state and local councils and from individual members for Haiti earthquake relief exceeded $144,000 twelve days after the January 12 disaster. $135,000 of the total came from the US, and $9,000 came from Canada. The donations are in addition to the $50,000 contribution made by the Supreme Council to Catholic Relief Services immediately following the earthquake. The period during which online donations to the United in Charity Fund will be earmarked for Haiti relief has been extended to February 8, 2010. Donors may also send checks, which should include the words “Haiti earthquake relief” on the memo line.

How to Donate to United in Charity

In the United States donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law and must be made out to Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Go to  http://www.kofc.org/un/eb/en/about/charities/UIC_donate.html.

Donate Online via Visa or Mastercard.  Or make check payable to:  Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc.   Write Haiti Earthquake Relief on the memo line of your check. Send to: Knights of Columbus Charities, One Columbus Plaza, PO Box 1966, New Haven, CT 06509-1966.

Other Ways to Donate to Haiti Earthquake Relief

Also, donationation to organizations, such as Catholic Relief Services, Food for the Poor and the Salvation Army (among many others), have mobilized their response teams and are seeking donations.  Several parishes are taking second collections for Catholic Relief.

Church of the Nativity Parish, Fr. Sikora Council 7992 and St. Mary of Sorrows Council 8600

The Church of the Nativity Parish in Burke is working with Food for the Poor and are collecting the following items of immediate need for Haiti:

    Powered Milk
    Canned Milk
    Large Canned Meats
    Large Canned Vegetables
    Bottled Water
    Diapers

Donations can be dropped off at Melinda Engelbrektsson's home at 8528 Chase Glen Circle, Fairfax Station.  She is also willing to pick up these items.  Please call her at 703.690.9921 for pickup or with any questions you may have concerning this effort.

Councils 7992 and 8600 are supporting this effort with Nativy Parish.  Council 7992 POC is Matt Smith GK, PFN at mattsmith93@yahoo.com and Council 8600 POC is Fidel Rodriquez, Council Advocate at fidelj72@yahoo.com.

Please help with the above Haiti Relif Programs or through your parishes.

Remember Our Guiding Principle of Chairity

Webmaster Comment: I have happily agreed to Johnny's request to continue to maintain the district web site. It is our intention to use these pages to keep all councils apprised of Coming Events, to include Degree Schedules, Degree Teams,   and KOVAR.  We highly encourage Grand Knights, degree team captains, membership chairmen, and KOVAR chairmen to refer to it often.  I will try to keep it as current as possible.

My special thanks to St. John Bosco Council, #12846 for allowing us to use their web site for District business.
